The Louisiana Housing Corporation has expanded the Blue Tarp Fund Roofing Repair Program for homeowners who were unable to previously apply. LHC Executive Director Joshua Hollins says the home must be a primary residence and applicants must meet low-income requirements. he says certain groups will be placed at the top of the list…:

The entire state is under heat advisories and warnings today as Louisiana braces for another week of likely record-breaking temperatures. Highs are expected to be above 100 degrees all week with heat index values nearing 115.

With a big election season coming up in Louisiana, get ready to start receiving political text messages. A few of the gubernatorial candidates have already started doing this as they try to build their name recognition ahead of the October 14th primary. The Rapides Parish coroner has positively identified Robert Owens. He’s the geocacher from New Jersey who was reported missing on July 17th in the Kisatchie National Forest. Detectives say there are no signs of foul play. Investigators say its likely Owens died from heat stroke on the first day he went into the National Forest.

It’s been a hot summer and it will only get hotter next week. High temperatures are expected to run between 102-104 degrees for Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria next week. South Louisiana will see highs between 100 and 101-degrees. State Climatologist Barry Keim says the state will see also oppressive heat indices…

Rain chances are also 20-percent or lower next week.

If you have a blue roof on your home because of previous storm damage, you might want to listen up. The Louisiana Housing Corporation has funding available to fix your roof through the Blue Tarp Fund Roofing Repair Program. L-H-C Executive Director Joshua Hollins says to be eligible, the homeowner must be 80-percent of the area median income or less and certain groups of applicants will be placed a the top of a waiting list…

After the data breach involving a third party vendor used by the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles last month, the OMV is offering a free year of Life Lock credit monitoring to those impacted. But Leesville Representative Chuck Owen believes the incident warrants legislative oversite.

Owen says decision on whether to call for an oversite committee is left to House Speaker Clay Schexnayder.

WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge is reporting the family of deceased LSU student Madison Brooks wanted law enforcement to look into the possibility of her being sexually assaulted before her death. Brooks was killed by a passing car after a heavy night of drinking in January. Four people have been charged for their involvement in an alleged rape of Brooks prior to her death. But WBRZ is reporting no DNA from the suspects was found in Brooks.

Construction for a new warehouse in Houma for Second Harvest Food Bank will get underway in August. The 17,000-square-foot facility will allow the agency to better serve Grand Isle along with Terrebonne, Lafourche, and St. Mary parishes. Second Harvest President Natalie Jayroe…

State Farm customers who have auto insurance will see a rate increase. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says the on average 17-percent rate increase is being driven by inflation, the cost of labor for auto repairs, and spiraling increases in the cost of parts and equipment for damaged vehicles. 29-percent of Louisiana drivers are insured by State Farm.

Louisiana students who received reduced-price lunches and breakfast will be able to get those meals at no cost now thanks to Marrero Representative Kyle Green’s legislation. Green says because you can’t learn on an empty stomach there’s a great need to also provide meals to these 7,000 additional students.

The additional free meals will cost the state about $859,000.

Former LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Saturday night during an induction ceremony in Natchitoches. Mainieri coached at LSU for 15 seasons and won four SEC regular season titles and six SEC Tournament championships. He led the Tigers to a national title in 2009…

State police have arrested 16 suspects and are looking for severl more in connection to a statewide car theft ring. One of the 16 in custody is from Louisiana, the rest are from Texas. An investigation into discrepancies of transactions began in January of 2022. Suspects are accused of using fake documents to undervalue cars to avoid taxes and some of the cars were reported stolen.

The MegaMillions Lottery Jackpot soars to an estimated $940 million dollars. That’s the eighth-largest ever in the U.S. Dustin Annison with the Louisiana Lottery says tonight’s jackpot has a lump sum value of $473 million.

Annison says sales in Louisiana through this MegaMillions Jackpot run that began on April 19th are more than $12.9 million.

Another week of oppressive heat is on the way with temperatures reaching triple digits starting this weekend. State Climatologist Barry Keim says there’s no real reason why the dome of high pressure has parked itself over the south.

Louisiana State Police has arrested 16 people in a statewide car theft ring for selling more than 100 vehicles using fake documents. The suspects sold 180 vehicles with a total value of over $9.8 million. Of the 16 people arrested, only one is from Louisiana, while the rest are from Texas and Florida.

More criticism from Lake Charles officials over the state department of transportation’s proposal to use toll money to pay for a proposed two-point-one billion dollar I-10 bridge over the Calcasieu River. Lake Charles Representative Phillip Tarver believes the project is too elaborate and so is the price tag…

33-year-old Gabriel Bates of Opelousas is sentenced to 26 months in prison on counterfeiting charges. Bates was already under surveillance by the Secret Service when Opelousas Police responded to a call from a local donut shop, they identified Bates using a fake $20 last August.
