The October 14th election is approaching and Louisiana voters will have four constitutional amendments on the ballot. Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana President Steven Procopio says Amendment 1 would ban the use of monetary donations from a nongovernmental or foreign source to administer elections.

Procopio says Amendment 1 is another attempt to solidify that those types of organizations cannot donate to help administer elections. Early voting begins Saturday.

Former Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association President, Will Green has been appointed as the new head of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. Green says he’s eager to work with lawmakers to pass legislation that is pro-business.

Green worked at LABI from 2014 to 2016 as their director for civil justice reform and employee relations.

The major Democrat in the governor’s race Shawn Wilson says he has a proven track record of bipartisan leadership to move the state in the right direction. Brooke Thorington has more.

Tangipahoa Sheriff Deputies say 19-year-old Johnathan Kliebert (clay-bear) fatally shot his mother and her dog while they slept on Tuesday. 46-year-old Ashley Kliebert was found dead in the master bedroom with a gunshot wound to her head. The dog was also found shot near her. Authorities say Johnathan Kliebert told investigators he awoke in an angry state and killed his mother and her dog. Johnathan was charged with first-degree murder and other offenses.

A driver hauling a trailer full of pigs lost all of the animals when the gate on the trailer came loose and the pigs fell out. Authorities say 30 dead pigs were scattered along the westbound side Mississippi River Bridge after the animals fell off the back of the truck and were hit by drivers. It’s unknown if the driver who lost its load was located.

He says as the new leader at L-A-B-I he wants to help state government enact bold reforms that will result in economic growth and a free enterprise system…

With some areas of the state starting to see more regular rainfall, Ag and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says the outdoor burn ban could be lifted for some areas, possibly as early as this week. But Strain says most of the state remains very dry…

85-hundred jobs were added in Louisiana in August according to figures released by the state workforce commission. Baton Rouge gained 43-hundred jobs, New Orleans added 17–hundred jobs, but Shreveport-Bossier City and Alexandria lost 600 jobs from July to August.

The Lafayette resident says his campaign is about making sure residents are healthier, safer, smarter and wealthier. If elected, Wilson says he’ll make sure the Medicaid expansion stays in place and he’ll make investments to be smart on crime…

Low water levels in the Mississippi River have decreased water flow into the gulf, which is allowing salt water to move up the river, potentially impact drinking water systems in southeast Louisiana.

That’s Ricky Boyette, Public Affairs for the Army Corps of Engineers, who says they will use a fleet of barges later this week to provide fresh water to treatment plants along the river.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services has its first medical director. Her name is Doctor Rebecca Hook, a pediatric emergency room physician. DCFS Assistant Secretary Amanda Brunson says Hook has the expertise to consult with the agency on complex medical cases involving child welfare…

Grambling State announces the football field inside Eddie Robinson Memorial Stadium will be named after G-S-U legends James Shack Harris and Doug Williams during the Tigers homecoming game against Alabama A-and-M on October 14th. Both were successful quarterbacks at Grambling and in the NFL.

Low water levels in the Mississippi River were caused by the ongoing drought is allowing saltwater intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico. Public Affairs for the Army Corps of Engineers says they’ve acquired barges that will go upriver and be filled with river water…

On Monday, Boyette says the Corps will begin to raise the underwater levee that was constructed in July to buy more time.

Tangipahoa Sheriff deputies have arrested 19-year-old Johnathan Payne Kliebert following the fatal shooting of his mother this morning. Authorities say 46-year-old Ashley Kliebert was found dead in the master bedroom of her residence with a gunshot wound to her head next to her dog which was also fatally wounded. Johnathan Kliebert has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and other offenses.

Saltwater flowing up the Mississippi River is threatening the drinking water in Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Army Corps of Engineers spokesperson Rickey Boyette says by the end of the week a fleet of barges will transport 15-million gallons of fresh water to treatment plants along the river…

The Corps is also raising the elevation of an underwater sill constructed in July to help slow down the saltwater intrusion.

A major donor to Jeff Landry’s gubernatorial campaign is asking for his $100,000 donation to be returned. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it appears donor John Odom has a beef with Landry hiring a former Trump campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services has appointed Dr. Rebecca Hook as its first Medical Director. Amanda Brunson DCFS Assistant Secretary for Child Welfare says Hook will serve as an in-house clinical resource for case workers and staff.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is offering a cash reward of up to 15-thousand dollars for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons that started the Tiger Island Fire, the Highway 113 Fire and the Lions Camp Fire. Strain says these wildfires placed many lives at risk and someone will be held liable.

Due to the dry conditions, rats have been making their way into homes and buildings looking for food and water. LSU Ag Center Professor emeritus Dr. Claudette Reichel (Rye-cul) says watch for rodents if you’ve got bad allergies…:

SNAP benefits will be going up beginning Sunday, October 1st. Recipients should see a three percent increase over the next 12 months. It translated to about a $34 a month per person increase. The increase will be automatic for those enrolled in the program. According to the Pelican Institute about one in five Louisiana’s receive food stamps.
